COVID Rapid Response

As the crisis impacted the globe, we looked closer to home at our local communities of Dewsbury and surrounding areas, quickly realising that many people were in need of support.

We did what we know how to do best – get stuck in the action!

By putting our ear to the ground, we listened for any people that needed help and a desperate cry echoed from many places. We assisted people in our local communities with food, fruit and local food shopping for essential ingredients. This was especially useful for the elderly, who due to COVID government guidelines, were unable to leave their homes. We further extended our help to the lovely, selfless #NHSheroes by taking treats and food to Pinderfields Hospital. But we didn’t stop there either!

Our young people also created videos honouring the many COVID heroes that they could think of. This helped aid their Duke of Edinburgh award and was a creative way for them to give back to the community in lockdown. Our young people commented that their involvement in the COVID response helped them stay physically and mentally stimulated during the lockdown.

And our initiatives carried on! We also offered the following as part of our COVID response:

  1. Bike Repair Service
  2. Free NHS/Key Workers Bike Loan Service (door to door service)
  3. Free Kumon Y’all…Let’s Learn English Lessons via Facebook Live
  4. Kumon Y’all…Made from scraps competition

We could never have given such an amazing response and been as efficient or effective without the support of our countless adults who were both young and young at heart. We would also like to thank Zakaria Education Centre for their support in delivering the crisis help too.
